A lot of people have been asking for the ability to import data since day one. We have be planning to do this from the start, it just took a little while to get everything up and running enough to be able to do it. Well today is the day, we’re excited to announce that you can now import data directly into iubo from a number of sources.
When you import data, it subscribes you to that source as well, therefore iubo will automagically update your index whenever there is something new. The following can be imported:
- vCard files
( Import your contacts from gmail / most other address books in only a few steps!)
- Flickr
( Always have your latest flickr photos available when you need them)
- Digg
( Everything you’ve ever dugg, and will digg gets added to your index!)
- RSS Feeds
(Subscribe to the latest blogs, podcasts, news…anything with an RSS feed.)
If you subscribe to a podcast, you can even watch / listen to them right within iubo!
We’ll be adding more sources to pull data from in the near future. ( Delicious, Youtube, Vimeo are all in the works) If you have any other suggestions of places you want to subscribe to, let us know in the comments.
In this release, as well as importing data we also updated our design. I hope you all like it, we feel its a lot fresher looking and will allows us more flexibility for future features. There are now default saved searches as well, these will hopefully make it easier for new users to find their stuff quicker. Search has also been greatly improved, you can order your searches, search by specific type etc.
I’ve also completed a lot of back-end work on release #2, a lot of optimization, a whole new way of storing our data in the index and a few other things that will help with future development. We also moved to a better host (Media Temple), this will allow us to scale up as required in the future.
There were a few things we wanted to get into this release, but didn’t manage to; you’ll see most of these in release #3.
We’ve got massive plans for release #3, there is a lot to come, I wish I could tell you but you’ll just have to stick around and see.
Any bugs you find / suggestions you have let us know!
Cheers
Joe
